Essential Oils for Pregnancy

Pregnancy and motherhood are the most amazing experiences for any woman!  Essential oils can ensure that the journey towards motherhood allows each woman the opportunity to savor, enjoy and cherish the moments of pregnancy and motherhood, without potential emotional, physical and physiological distractions.  Commonly used carrier oils include, fractionated coconut, calendula, jojoba, avocado, sunflower, hazelnut, almond, extra-virgin olive, etc.

Pregnancy

Self-Love:  2-3 drops of Elevation (Joyful Blend) on wrists and behind ears every 3 hours or as needed not to exceed 24 drops in a day.  4-6 drops in a diffuser centrally located in home throughout the day – there is no maximum on how much you can diffuse.

Nausea/Vomiting:  1-3 drops of peppermint in 1 tablespoon of carrier oil and apply on ears, down jawbone and on bottom of feet every 4 hours or as needed not to exceed 24 drops in a day.  4-6 drops in a diffuser centrally located in home throughout the day – there is no maximum on how much you can diffuse.

Fatigue:  1-2 drops of lemon, wild orange, or peppermint (or make your own blend) in palms of hands, rub together, and inhale deeply as needed not to exceed 24 drops in a day.  4-6 drops of these oils in a diffuser centrally located in home throughout the day – there is no maximum on how much you can diffuse.

Stretch Marks:  5-10 drops of lavender in 1 tablespoon of carrier oil and apply on location in morning and evening.

Breasts (Soothe):  3-5 drops of lavender and/or geranium to 1 tablespoon of carrier oil and massage on location in morning and evening.

Constipation: 1-3 drops of DigestZen, Lemon, or Peppermint in water or a vegetable capsule every 4 hours not to exceed 12 drops in a day.  Or massage 3-5 drops in 1 tablespoon of carrier oil on abdomen.

Sleep:  2-3 drops of lavender on the bottoms of your feet before going to bed.  In addition, 4-6 drops in a diffuser in your bedroom at night.

Swelling:  Drink 3-4 quarts of water every day.  1-2 drops of lemon per 8 oz. drinking water.  In addition, 3-5 drops of lemon and/or lavender with a carrier oil and massage into legs, ankles, and feet every 4 hours not to exceed 24 drops in a day.

 Perineum Massage:  5-10 drops of geranium to a carrier oil and massage on perineum in morning and evening.

Birth

Contraction Effectiveness:  2 drops each of clary sage, geranium and lavender with 1 tablespoon of carrier oil massaged on the abdomen and bottom of the feet every hour as needed during early labor.

Balance Energy/Improve Coping Capacity:  1-2 drops of Balance on the bottom of feet every hour as needed during labor not to exceed 24 drops in a day.  Diffuse 3-5 drops of lavender or Balance in birthing room through labor and birth.

Support through Contraction (pain relief):  2-3 drops of basil with a carrier oil massaged into lower back every hours as needed during labor, not to exceed 24 drops in a day.

Transition: 1-2 drops of basil in carrier oil massage into temples or abdomen every 3 hours not to exceed 24 drops in a day.

Post Pregnancy

Gift to Every Newborn Mother:  2-4 drops of Elevation in shower gel or body lotion in the morning.  4-6 drops of Elevation in a diffuser centrally located in home throughout the day – there is no maximum on how much you can diffuse.

 Breast Soreness:  1-2 drops of geranium undiluted directly on nipple after each breastfeeding.  Oils do not need to be removed prior to the next feeding.

Increase Milk Production:  2-3 drops of basil, clary sage or geranium undiluted on the breast.  Massage into the tissue, avoiding the nipple every 3-4 hours not to exceed 24 drops a day.

Perineum Support:  10 drops of frankincense and lavender to a 15 ml bottle with a spray top.  Fill the rest of the bottle with filtered water, and spray on perineum after birth to soothe, use as needed.

Mastitis:  2-3 drops of melaleuca or lavender undiluted on the breast and lymph nodes under armpit every 3 hours not to exceed 24 drops in a day.

Balance Hormones:  1 swipe of Clary Calm Women’s Monthly Blend rollerball on wrists and back of neck every 3 hours.  4-6 drops of frankincense in a diffuser centrally located in home throughout the day – there is no maximum on how much you can diffuse.
